Separate Timberline 9.6 & Maxwell Estimation
Timberline’s new version 9.6 doesn’t share common application files with Maxwell Systems Estimation. Don’t put these 2 applications on the same computer until both software companies figure a way to resolve the problem. Programmers at Maxwell Systems have been working on a fix for at least a month.
As of today, both applications still don’t work together. Sage Timberline and Maxwell compete for the same market share so they don’t normally help each other fix problems. Eventually, both will find a way to work together. It will just take some time.
Timberline’s New Advanced Assemblies Databases Speed-Up Software Usability
Timberline just released new Advanced Assembly Databases that have current manufacturing prices and items. These databases are comprehensive with 51000 items and 7400 formulas. John Fredley of Advanced Assemblies Database Inc. spent 10 years creating these databases to fit a variety of estimating styles.
95% of the assemblies support both “man-hour,” and “unit-pricing,” estimating. You can take off self-performed and sub-contract work. It makes it easy to produce “quantity,” and well as “bill of materials.” Included are Work Breakdown Codes (WBS) for every construction trade.
These databases have an incredible amount of knowledge built in. If you need a good estimating system up and running fast, you should check it out.
Here is the list of new Advanced Assembly Databases: Composite includes all of the following individual databases: Residential, Sitework, Concrete and Masonry and a Starter database.
New Timberline Estimating Databases Just Arrived
Joe the UPS Driver just dropped by the new Sage Timberline Estimating Databases (Version 9.6). My database review will follow next week as soon as I check what the Timberline elves did over at headquarters.
It looks like the package includes the new updated 2009 RS Means Estimating Database for Timberline Estimating, enhanced Commercial and Residential Knowledgebases and a Master Format 1995 to Master Format 2004 map.
I know this is a very generic piece of information, but I promise a full review in plain terms that are easy to understand. For now, lets celebrate long-anticipated enhancements to Sage Timberline Estimating Databases!
Pssstt…did you hear Timberline enhanced is on its way?
“Run a tight ship” is one of the oldest sayings out there – yet it has never been more appropriate. In today’s economic climate the leaner&meaner you are, the better your chances of surviving the economic threat that has tightly grasped so many businesses by the throat.
Running your business efficiently and intelligently is mission critical. Sage Timberline gets it. To prove it they will soon release version 9.6. Mid- March is what they’re shooting for.
The new version helps…
• Propel you to profitability faster
• Maximize Timberline’s effectiveness
• Make your life easier
• By offering an expanded General Ledger
A couple of cool features…
• 64-Bit Compatibility
• Estimating now supports multicurrency
It also gives you seamless integration between Estimating and Project Management by letting you use Estimating for pricing out Change Requests from within the Project Management Change Request window. This means when your Estimator or Project Manager is faced with a potential change in the scope of work and needs to provide the owner with a quote, they can easily estimate the change using Estimating and automatically populate the item grid in the Change Request screen.

What Roofing Contractors Are Saying
At the January 2009, International Roofing Expo at the Mandalay Bay Hotel in Las Vegas, I spoke with several owners of roofing companies about the software they use for cost accounting, estimating and project management. In a couple of the breakout training sessions, there was a general agreement that Sage Timberline Accounting is recognized as the best cost accounting software for medium to large roofing companies. This made me happy since I represent Sage Timberline. There was also alot of rumblings about consolidating all of the various softwares into a single integrated software that can handle processes of a typical roofing company. For example, roofing companies need Customer Relationship and Sales Tracking software which is commonly referred to as (CRM software). CRM software is more important to Residential Roofing companies opposed to Commercial Roofing companies. These companies would love a solution that allowed the CRM software to track and create sales proposals and then flow seamlessly into the Cost Accounting software if the work is awarded. From here, the accounting department can buy the materials, manage the job and bill the client.
There is a little known solution using a software created by EnablingIP that connects Sage CRM to Timberline. You can attend a webinar on their website www.enablingip.com or contact www.dbdatainc.com
